Sightseeing Course: South to Central Areas of Okinawa Main Island

Updated July 23, 13:00
This shuttle-bus tour will take you to popular tourist attractions in the south and central areas of Okinawa Island. The itinerary includes stops at Ryukyu Mura, South east Botanical Gardens, Gyokusendo Kingdom Village, Himeyuri Park, Peace Memorial Museum and several other places of interest.
Ryukyu Mura re-creates the Ryukyu Dynasty era with a working traditional village that includes displays of Ryukyuan fabrics and pottery. The traditional method of making brown sugar from sugar cane can also be observed as you are taken back in time. Visitors will see up-close a display of the world's largest tug-of-war rope, which was made in Okinawa for the Naha Festival in October.
At the South east Botanical Gardens, you can sip on tropical drinks while enjoying many beautiful subtropical trees and flowers.
Gyokusendo Kingdom Village is a theme park with cultural information on the former Ryukyu Kingdom. The park's main attraction, however, is the largest known limestone cave in Southeast Asia.
Visitors to Himeyuri Park will feel like they are in the middle of a western movie. The park holds 100,000 cactus trees, making the landscape a unique area on sub-tropical Okinawa.
Those interested in the history of the Battle of Okinawa will be moved by the Peace Memorial Park and the Cornerstone of Peace. The park and its monument were created to honor victims of the Battle of Okinawa and to promote world peace.
*On July 23, this tour will make a special stop at Shuri Castle.
