 Updated July 21, 13:00
The Peace Memorial Park Tour takes visitors to the "Heiwa no Ishiji" (Cornerstone of Peace)Monument and Peace Memorial Museum at Mabuni Hill in Itoman City.

The exhibits at Okinawa's Peace Memorial Museum portray the hardships the Okinawan people faced both during and after the Pacific War. The museum explains Okinawa's historical background and life under twenty seven years of U.S. Military control from the perspective of the Okinawan people. Historical and personal accounts of U.S. Military base related problems; human rights issues; and the activities which finally led to Okinawa's reversion to Japan are also conveyed through video, photographs, and written text. The concept of the museum is to pass on the history of Okinawa to future generations and to express the Okinawan people's desire for world peace.

The Cornerstone of Peace Monument displays the names of all those who lost their lives during the Battle of Okinawa, regardless of nationality and military or civilian status. There are over 230,000 names inscribed on the stone monument to be remembered forever. Each year, many bereaved families from across the nation and from overseas visit the monument and offer their condolences. The Okinawa G8 Summit Host Preparation Council hopes meny media personal will also and from overseas join the Peace Memorial Park Tour.
