Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu


The " Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu" are cultural heritages characteristically unique to the district of the Ryukyu. They were developed sometime between the end of the 14th century when the Ryukyu Kingdom began its steps toward unification,and the end of the 18th century when the Kingdom was finally established.

The king of Chuzan lived in this castle during the Sanzan Period. However,with the unification of Ryukyu Kingdom from 1429 to 1879 the king of Ryukyu resided there to play the central role in politics,diplomacy,and culture.It is designated a historie site.
